Humpback whale watching in Samana Bay

Full day excursion to observe the whales from the boat in Samana Bay, with transportation from Bayahibe

Humpback whale in Samana Bay

If you are travelling between January 15 and March 30, you might want to take the opportunity to encounter the humpback whales in Samana. Every winter, hundreds of humpback whales are coming to Samana Bay, in the North East of the Dominican Republic, to reproduce and give birth to their babies in warm waters. This is one of a few places in the world where you can observe humpback whales from the boat with a 99% chance of encounter. Only big boats authorised by the Ministry of Environment are allowed to take people for whale watching and have to respect some rules to have a responsible encounter. We organise this full-day whale watching excursion in collaboration with several other partners to group the people on the same bus and boat and make it possible from Bayahibe.

You will join a group of visitors and take a confortable bus for an approx. 3 hours ride to Miches. There, you will have breakfast, and then go for the whale watching tour on a boat. After observing the whales, you will have lunch at Montaña Redonda, a small mountain where you will have a great view on the sea and enjoy the natural vegetation. You can take a selfie on the swings as if you were flying with the view in the background. Then, the bus will drive you back to Bayahibe.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
